TAP Air Portugal has opened a new lounge in the international area of Lisbon Airport for passengers traveling to countries outside the European Union.

The space, beyond the security control area, will provide more comfort, convenience and privacy for passengers on flights outside the Schengen region, according to an announcement. (Schengen is a visa-free zone comprising multiple European countries.) The lounge, which will highlight Portuguese culture, is 4,090 square feet in size, with a capacity of approximately 100 people. It will open every day between 5 a.m. and midnight.

Sofia Lufinha, TAP’s chief customer officer, said the new lounge “was a need we identified and now have been able to fulfill.” TAP, she said, has a very strong presence in markets such as Brazil, the US and Africa, “and now we can provide a more comfortable experience for passengers on non-Schengen flights.”

The designated spaces for food, work, meetings and relaxation, said the announcement, ensure passengers’ privacy and comfort. There is also gallery space for temporary exhibitions by Portuguese artists, offering TAP and Star Alliance passengers an insight into Portuguese culture and creativity.

The new lounge has a buffet area which provides hot and cold options reflecting Portugal’s national cuisine; meals can be enjoyed with a view overlooking the airport.
