Belmond, which operates hotels and other travel businesses, has appointed Daniel Ruff as senior vice president, head of global operations. He most recently served as president and managing director Europe/Middle East/Asia for Wyndham Hotel Group, where he oversaw the company’s business across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. Prior to his role at Wyndham, Ruff held various positions at Starwood Hotels and Resorts as a member of the EMEA senior leadership team. He began his career at Credit Suisse First Boston in the investment banking division.

Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for US airlines, has named Alison McAfee as managing director, communications. She previously served as senior director of corporate communications at Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu. From 2006 to 2013, she worked at JetBlue Airways in New York as manager of external communications. Prior to her time in the industry, McAfee was a publicist for NBC Sports and spent three years at Edelman Southwest, a public relations agency.

Department of Homeland Security has a new secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, who has been confirmed by the Senate. Nielsen, who most recently worked as deputy to White House chief of staff John Kelly, is a cybersecurity expert who previously worked in the administration of George W. Bush and at the Transportation Security Administration.
