American Express Global Business Travel has bought Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) for about $553 million. The acquisition is expected to complete in the second quarter of this year. Amex said the deal will enable it to combine two “advanced technology and development platforms” in a bid to create more products and services for corporate customers of the two companies. In a statement, Amex said it will also look at leveraging each company’s "existing infrastructure and technology capabilities to maximize efficiencies across the business." Doug Anderson, CEO of Amex GBT, said, "The technology roadmaps of each business provide a powerful platform from which to drive future innovation. We will deliver a superior client and traveler experience through fully-integrated travel management solutions, including booking and expense management products." The deal came the same day as HRG said it plans to sell its Fraedom payments software business to Visa.
