The consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by US-based travel agencies increased nearly 10 percent in April as compared with April 2017, according to the Airlines Reporting Corp., totaling $8.6 billion vs. $7.8 billion (results do not include sales of tickets purchased directly from airlines). The average US roundtrip ticket price for April 2018 was $484, down $11 from March; average April 2018 ticket prices are down about 3.5 percent compared with April 2017 (only includes US domestic travel). The total number of passenger trips settled by ARC for US travel agencies increased 9.4 percent to 25.1 million compared with 23 million in April 2017. US domestic trips increased nearly 9 percent while international passenger trips increased 10.6 percent. Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) sales (includes fees for products and services such as upgraded seats, checked luggage, etc.) in April 2018 totaled more than $6.9 million, a 12.5 percent decrease compared with April 2017; EMD transactions also decreased 13 percent to 121,000 in April 2018 vs. 139,000 in April 2017.
