The Lufthansa Group’s newest airline, Lufthansa City Airlines, announced its initial destinations, with flights scheduled to begin this summer.

The airline will initially fly to the following destinations from Munich: Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Hanover — all in Germany — as well as Bordeaux in France; and Birmingham and Manchester in the UK. In the following months, the carrier will gradually expand its network and offer additional destinations in Europe.

By ordering 40 Airbus A220-300 aircraft and a further 20 purchase options, according to the announcement, the Lufthansa Group has set a clear signal for the future of the new airline. The competitive strengthening of the short-haul network, said the announcement, is essential for strengthening the Lufthansa Group’s market position and the planned growth of Lufthansa long-haul routes.

Passengers on board Lufthansa City Airlines, said the announcement, can expect the Lufthansa product offering and customer experience for short and medium-haul routes. The first two of four Airbus A319 aircraft to be deployed this year have already been painted in the new Lufthansa City livery.

Flights will be available for booking beginning at the end of April via the familiar Lufthansa Group sales channels. Image: Lufthansa City
