JAL Unveils Plans for New Aircraft Cabins

Planes will begin service between Tokyo and New York by end of year.

Japan Air Lines unveiled the details for the cabin interiors of its new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, which will become the airline’s flagship for international service. The carrier’s launch of the equipment on the Tokyo (Haneda) – New York (JFK) route is expected to take place before the end of the year.

The planes will offer six seats in First Class, 54 in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy Class and 155 in Economy Class for a total of 239. First Class and Business Class will offer fully private environments with doors, a headphone-free stereo with built-in headrest speakers, and a wardrobe and storage space. First Class seats will have three modes: sofa, seat and single bed or double bed. Business Class will have seat and bed modes.

Premium Economy will offer “larger partitions” and adjustable leg rests. Economy will feature “spacious seating and ample legroom,” with seat width of approximately 18 inches and seat pitch of 33 to 34 inches.

For inflight entertainment, Panasonic’s latest inflight entertainment system and inflight WiFi service will debut on board the new aircraft. All classes will feature 4K monitors for high-quality viewing with Bluetooth connectivity. Each customer will also be able to create a personalized favorites list through integration with the JAL Mobile App.
