Economy fares for flights between the US and international destinations have decreased an average of 8.8% in the second quarter of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023, based on an analysis of bookings at FCM Travel and Corporate Traveler, the flagship business travel divisions of Flight Centre Travel Group.
Some of the countries experiencing the biggest declines in airfares were:
- US to France: down 19.8%
- US. to UK: down 18%
- US to Australia: down 14.1%
- US. to Singapore: down 11%
- US to Canada: down 3.5%
Bill McDonough, president, FCM Travel, Americas, said “it’s encouraging to see this continued drop in international airfares, especially with more and more business travelers embracing the return to overseas travel.”
International travel, said McDonough, can have a positive impact on business performance as it allows companies to expand their global footprint and diversify their customer base in new overseas markets. By exploring different regions and countries, he said, it also exposes travelers to different cultures, customs and ways of doing business. This cultural understanding, said McDonough, “can lead to better cross-cultural communication and a global perspective that informs business strategies.”
