Delta Air Lines is expanding its free fast WiFi service internationally. Starting this summer, according to an announcement, customers on select Viasat-equipped long-haul flights can get the service. Free WiFi will then be rolled out on a route-by-route basis as high-quality reliable service becomes available.
Currently, free, streaming-quality connectivity is available on nearly 700 aircraft — more than 90% of Delta’s domestic mainline fleet — and the airline expects the vast majority of domestic customers will have access to the product by the end of the year.
The international service is beginning this month to a number of countries in Europe and will extend elsewhere in Europe next month. In October, free WiFi will move into South America, then Africa later this year and finally on transpacific flights in mid- to late 2025.
As free WiFi rolls out internationally, the international WiFi portal will not require a SkyMiles log-in initially. Later this year, all Viasat WiFi-equipped aircraft will officially convert to the personalized Delta Sync WiFi experience unlocked by customers’ SkyMiles memberships for exclusive onboard experiences and offers.
Ranjan Goswami, senior vice president-customer experience design, said, “The scale at which we’re bringing free WiFi to customers is unmatched in the airline industry, and it’s a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the business that have expertly navigated an extremely complex rollout.”
