Average Cost of International Flights From US Decreases, Says Study

Research from FCM and Corporate Traveler sees 5.7% drop in economy, 6.3% in business.

The average cost of international flights from the US has dropped year over year (YoY) for both economy and business classes, according to corporate booking data from FCM and Corporate Traveler (both part of Flight Centre Travel Group).

According to the research, these were the fares in January-March 2024 against the same period in 2023:

Economy Class overall: $1,217 average international ticket price (5.7% decline YoY)

  • China: down 26.9% ($3,631 to $2,654)
  • Australia: down 17.2% ($2,945 to $2,439)
  • UK: down 12.2% ($1,559 to $1,369)
  • France: down 12% ($1,869 to $1,645)
  • Japan: down 6.5% ($2,316 to $2,167)

Business Class overall: $6,972 average international ticket price (6.3% decline YoY)

  • France: down 21.2% ($8,417 to $6,552)
  • Hong Kong: down 20.7% ($10,232 to $8,112)
  • China: down 17.8% ($10,937 to $8,996)
  • Singapore: down 5.6% ($9,337 to $8,816)
  • UK: down 4% ($6,602 to $6,338)

John Van den Heuvel, president, Corporate Traveler, USA, told BTE, “It’s been another exciting start to the year as travelers have been eager to get back on the road.” With traveler confidence on the rise, he said, “this recent drop in international airfares has especially been a welcome sign for corporate travelers that do business overseas.
