Airlines Reporting Corp. reported the highest January air ticket sales in history; the $8.9 billion in sales was a 7% increase over January 2023.
Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer, said the results represent a promising start to air travel in 2024 as a busy travel season approaches. He said business travel had a solid month, with corporate travel agency sales settled trips increasing 7% year over year.
US domestic trips were up 58% month over month and 8% year over year to 15.9 million, while international trips were up 44% month over month and 6% year over year to 9.7 million. The average ticket price was $546, up 1% month over month and 3% year over year.
January ancillary sales (seat upgrades, baggage check, etc.) increased 37% year over year to $27.9 million, while ancillary transactions increased 39% to 462,856 over the same period.
