Airlines canceled just 0.1% of their scheduled domestic flights in November, lower than both the 1.1% rate in November 2022 and the 0.3% rate in October 2023, according to the latest Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

For the first 11 months of 2023, 1.4% of flights were canceled, far below the 2.5% cancellation rate for the first 11 months of 2022 and the 2% cancellation rate for the first 11 months of pre-pandemic 2019.

Operated flights in November were up 6.76% year over year from the number operated in November 2022 and down 5.43% month over month from the total operated in October 2023.

In November, airlines reported two tarmac delays of more than three hours on domestic flights, compared with six such delays reported in October. Airlines reported one tarmac delay of more than four hours on international flights in November, compared with zero such tarmac delays reported in October.

Reporting marketing carriers (the airlines that sold the tickets) handled 39.1 million bags and posted a mishandled baggage rate of 0.39% in November, lower than both the rate of 0.44% in October 2023 and the rate of 0.51% in November 2022.

Bumping/oversales data, unlike other air carrier data, are reported quarterly rather than monthly.
